Is your Sunday School “on purpose”? Is it focused? Is it driven by a mission? Is her function crystal clear? Make no mistake about it; with all her critics, Sunday School is still the single most effective Bible teaching, evangelistic, and ministering arm of the church. Nothing can mobilize the army of God like an “on purpose” Sunday School ministry. Sunday School can be “on purpose” because it gets people involved with a purpose!
When I became pastor of First Baptist Church Woodstock, GA, we ran 262 in Sunday School and had two dozen Sunday School classes. Today we run close to 6,000 in Sunday School attendance and have over 400 Sunday School classes. My point is that we have empowered our people to get involved with a clearly defined purpose – to reach people, to teach people, and to minister to people’s needs.
Our second annual Sunday School in HD Conference will give you the personal opportunity to be equipped and encouraged in this great work. But it will also give you the opportunity to bring your Sunday School leaders and potential leaders, getting everyone on the same page. This will multiply your effectiveness many times over. If you come by yourself you will add to your Sunday School ministry. Bringing your team, however, will multiply the value of your whole Sunday School ministry and move your organization to an “on purpose” Sunday School.
As a pastor I understand my calling to “equip the saints.” Why? “To do the work of the ministry.” Why? To “build up the body of Christ!” I can’t imagine any leader not wanting to add value to his people’s ministry. So, set aside these two days. These two days will help your Sunday School leaders give their undivided attention to their ministry. If you are to get your Sunday School focused and “on purpose,” then you will need to exert purposeful leadership. I look forward to seeing you March 11-12, 2010!
